NICOSIA, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Olympic silver medalist Qi Ying teamed up with Zhang Zixi to claim gold at the World Cup mixed team trap event, beating Poland's Tomasz Pasierbski and Sandra Bernal 42-39 on Sunday.
Qi and Zhang needed a shoot-off to get into the gold medal match in the qualification. They and Turkish pair Tolga Tuncer and Rumeysa Pelin Kaya leveled at 143 hits, with Qi and Zhang emerging victorious after a 2-1 shoot-off.
China trailed by one shot after 20 shots, and Zhang stood out in the following rounds. The 19-year-old markswoman hit 14 out of her final 15 targets, helping China catch up and take the lead. Poland missed eight out of the final 30 shots, and the Chinese duo won the contest with a 3-hit advantage, with Zhang taking her first ISSF World Cup medal.
India's Kynan Chenai and Sabeera Haris beat Tuncer and Kaya 34-33 to take the bronze.
Sunday's event concluded the ISSF World Cup in Nicosia. Italy's Elia Sdruccioli won the men's skeet, and Arina Kuznetsova, representing the independent neutral athlete (AIN) team, claimed the women's skeet title. Lada Denisova, also a member of the AIN team, took gold in the women's trap, while the men's trap went to Spain's Manuel Murcia. ■
